About the Author


Mike is shown in the middle with Orange County Public School's Board Chairman, Bert Carrier, and Superintendent Dennis Smith, accepting one of numerous awards he has received during his long teaching career.

Michael Lopatka, the author of The Ultimate Guide to Student Science Fair Projects, is a high school teacher with over 20 years of experience in science education.  His credentials include:
  • 15 years as the chairman of the Scientific Review Committee and the Institutional Review Board for the Orange County Regional Science and Engineering Fair.
  • Has guided many students to place "Best in Fair" as well as having many State and International winners.
  • Has taught many science fair  research classes where students develop ongoing independent research projects.
  • Has conducted numerous teacher and student workshops and institutes.
  • Edgewater High School teacher of the year.
  • Experience in teaching all levels of students including elementary, middle, high school and college.
  • Invited presenter at state and national conferences.
  • Has published articles in national science magazines.
  • State of Florida Environmental teacher of the year.
  • National Teachers Honor Technology Roll.
  • Principle textbook reviewer for Scott Foresman Addison Wesley's Biology-The Web of Life. 

Mike was selected as the Florida Environmental Teacher of the Year for 1992. On his left is Kate Muldoon, Florida Commissioner for Environmental Education, and AT&T Administrators.
