Parent Tips

PARENT/GUARDIAN NOTIFICATIONS and ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

1. Parents/Guardians will be notified, by the school, of students’ performance in the form of Interim
Progress approximately every 4 ½ weeks.

Reports and Report Cards

Information of students’ academic progress can be viewed online ( see your child’s guidance counselor
for more information). Additional verbal and/or written notifications may be given in the event of
unsatisfactory performance.

2. Please refer to our school calendar https://www.ocps.net/lc/north/hed/Pages/default.aspx  for specific
date and time schedules of Progress Reports, Report Cards, Midterm and Final Exams.  Please feel free to
email the teacher for specific updates regarding their classes.

3. Students will be provided with deadlines for major projects. These projects required of students in Honors
and Advanced Placement classes include science fair and scientific research assignments.

4. It is highly recommended that students obtain the names and telephone numbers of at least two other
classmates to inquire about information on missed assignments and class notes. On the board is containing
information concerning daily assignments. Student Study Groups are encouraged.

5. If a student misses class, he/she has two schooldays, after the first day when the student returns to class, to
make up all missed assignments. It’s the student’s sole responsibility to obtain information and collect all forms
for any missed assignment, as well as, to turn in all such pertinent work on time to the teacher and be prepared
to make up tests. If a student’s absence or tardy from class is not excused, she/he may not be allowed to make
up the missed assignment. Make up tests may be administered during class time. Make up assignments, including
tests and laboratory work, may be in essay and/or research form, different from their original assignment format.

6. Please check with your child frequently to determine how he/she is performing in class. It is very important that
you are aware of your child’s progress to be able to effectively intervene, if necessary, on a timely manner. Feel
free to email (lopatkm@ocps.net or lopatkc@ocps.net ) or call me (407-835-4900 x 4293 Mr. Lopatka or
407-835-4900x4210 Mrs. Lopatka) if you have any concerns or questions. Parent/Guardian meetings will have
to be arranged through the counseling office.

7. If a student has any problems, concerns and questions, or is in need of assignment assistance, she/he may
arrange to meet with me by appointment.

8.  Student grades are never a mystery and should not come as a surprise at the end of the nine weeks.
Student grades are posted weekly by student number in the classroom and can be checked online using
K12 Planet or Progress Book (guidance counselors have access information).  All student papers are
graded and returned to students promptly for placement into their class notebook.  Additionally, you may
always speak with the teacher personally upon request for academic progress.

9. Please be sure discuss with your child the importance of making wise choices, as poor choices may result in
undesirable and unfortunate consequences. Grades are also a choice and your child’s teacher as well as all
available school resources can be extremely useful in helping achieve her/his academic objectives.

10. There is a homework assignment every day.  Each day in class a new topic or lab is covered.  The largest single
downfall for students doing poorly in class is their lack of effort, too much socialization during class, not paying
attention during class, not completing assignments given in class including labs and failure to study for upcoming tests.
High school classes require maturity, respect and responsibility.  Students who do not take this seriously or do not
complete assignments tend to do very poorly and fail.
